The panel aims to stimulate discussions on how cities and communities contribute to making the society more democratic and open to knowledge acquisition, innovation and learning relying on searching for smart solutions and sustaining participation by encouraging citizens and organizations to actively participate in the development of urban areas and policies. Suggested topics may cover, but are not limited to, the following aspects: knowledge management and smart cities, sustainable development of communities, knowledge transfer within society, knowledge and social innovation, etc.
